Loft Literary Center: ONLINE COURSE
10/4/17 - 11/1/17
Stand out from the slush and workshop your way to crafting a successful query letter. Struggling to summarize your story or personalize your pitch? Are you ready to stop getting rejections and start getting requests? It's time to kick the clichés, ditch the info dumps, and get ready to dive deeper than a list of dos and dont's.
This in-depth course will help you showcase both your book and your bio to the best advantage. Writing fiction is intimate, but writing a great query requires a different skill-set: an objective eye, a promotional style, and the ability to consider your book as a whole.
We'll study real queries that hooked an agent, talk about how to research the right agents for you, and examine the standard query rules (then learn when to break them). You'll have an opportunity to write and then workshop a query letter, with personalized, targeted feedback from the course instructor, and weekly live chats. At the end of this course you'll walk away with a polished, professional query letter that's sure to spark interest.
FIRST FIVE FRENZY with Amy Trueblood
The First Five Frenzy is all about getting an agent’s perspective on what works, and what fails, in those first pages of a manuscript. It’s tricky to get the right balance, but I hope by reading each agent’s comments you’ll learn how to make your manuscript a shining gem that’s requested over and over.
Today, I’m proud to share Kelly Van Sant’s perspective on what’s important in those critical first pages.

AGENT SPOTLIGHT and query critique giveaway with Literary Rambles
Researching and querying agents is extremely time consuming, and when you’re trying to put together a personal query for each agent (which you should be) it’s even more so. And this is only after you’ve compiled a list of agents who represent your genre, which takes its own share of time. Literary Rambles is here to help! Today I'm thrilled to have Kelly Van Sant here. She is an agent at D4EO Literary Agency.
